Hospital bed rental costs: compare the whole bill

Start with the bed you need and the total for your dates. The lowest monthly number may leave out the mattress, transport or collection.

There is no single all-in rental price. Compare the same suitable bed, the exact billing period, mattress, delivery, setup and pickup. Use the examples below to see what a published rate does—and does not—include.

  • Keep weekly, 28-day and monthly rates separate.
  • A refundable deposit is cash you may need, not automatically a final cost.
  • Ask for a written total for your address and intended return date.
Rental cost calculator

Estimate your total rental cost.

Use confirmed charges from one supplier. A rental period means the exact period in your quote, whether that’s a week, 28 days or a month.

Planning estimate only. Empty fee fields count as $0. Add all quoted charges, including tax. Deposits are shown separately; payment timing and refunds depend on the supplier.

What published prices actually include

These regional examples were reviewed on October 24, 2026. They are different offers, not a cheapest-provider ranking, a national price range or a promise of availability. The mattress, model and service area must match your needs.

Supplier / areaPublished rentalPackage and extra costs
Homepro Medical · NYC, northern NJ and CT service areasFull-electric: $125/week or $275/month$150 delivery/pickup listed; location can change fee. Mattress purchased separately; transport tax may apply.
The Hospital Bed Project · Southern New England$150/month · refurbished model to confirmDelivery/setup included; reusable foam mattress unless specified otherwise. Ask about rental collection charges.
Hospital Bed Solutions · New England coverage to confirmFull-electric: $225/month · one-month minimumRails included. Product listing excludes mattress and delivery; request a complete quote.

A worked example: monthly rate versus first bill

Using Homepro’s published full-electric monthly rate, listed transport fee and economy innerspring purchase: $275 + $150 + $125 = $550 before applicable delivery tax or any location adjustment. This is arithmetic from one offer, not a quote for your address or a mattress recommendation.

If a different mattress is required, the total changes. Confirm the final invoice and whether the delivery charge covers both trips. A repeat month may not repeat a one-time mattress purchase, but extensions and renewal conditions still matter.

Count billing periods before comparing

Ask whether “month” means a calendar month, 30 days or 28 days. Do not turn four weeks into a calendar month. If a rental renews for a whole period, an extra day can have a different cost from a daily extension.

Write down the start date, minimum term, renewal date, cancellation notice and the event that ends billing. A phone request, scheduled pickup and completed collection are different events. Ask which controls the final charge in your contract.

  • Ask for the total if you return on the planned date.
  • Request a second total if you need one extra week.
  • Check whether a longer quoted term has a different rate.

Ask for these six lines in the quote

Keep insurance estimates separate

Private-pay prices are not Medicare-approved amounts. If you are using insurance, obtain a benefits and supplier check before using a published rental price as your expected bill. Medicare requires an eligible prescribed home-use item and an enrolled supplier; assignment affects the amount you pay.

Use our coverage guide for the questions to ask. A receipt for possible reimbursement is different from a supplier agreeing to bill your plan.

Common questions

Does the lowest bed rate mean the cheapest rental?

Not necessarily. Compare the same suitable equipment with the mattress, transport, collection and full rental duration included. The examples above show how inclusions differ.

Is the deposit part of the cost?

The calculator shows it separately. A refundable deposit increases cash committed, but its final cost depends on the contract and whether it is returned.

Are these live quotes?

No. They are dated published offers. Confirm current rates, stock, delivery area and taxes directly with the supplier.

Sources & approach

Based on linked supplier, manufacturer and public-agency information. This is source-based research, not hands-on testing or a clinical assessment. Confirm current equipment, terms and availability with the supplier; discuss equipment suitability with your care team.
